I can already tell that 2015 is going to be a Great year. I have a fresh start and a newfound opportunity to work on my independence. This week has not been easy, but I am making it through and learning a lot. Sometimes I wish lessons were less painful. It could be that I just need to do a better job of learning from my past mistakes and the life lessons of others. Growth is definitely a process.
Day 4: January 1st 2015 New Years Day
POLAR BEAR PLUNGE + 70 PUSH-UPS!!! We were blessed with a beautifully fresh blue sky day where the sun showed its radiant face. I had my heart set on doing a polar bear plunge. After church I picked up my friend Kathy Morris and we headed over to Long Lake. We were graced with good luck and got a close parking spot. It looked as if the whole world was blanketed with frost. We strategically placed our belongings by the bonfire because I knew that I would want to warm up my toes after my dip in the icy water. I showed Kathy how to work my camera phone and started getting giddy and psyched for the jump. I loved the energy of the crowd and got super excited as they blasted the Cupid Shuffle from the speakers. I love dancing. To me it doesn’t even matter who’s watching! We learned that the water was 42 degrees and I was determined to be a part of the 1st group of jumpers.
I stripped down to my swimsuit and joined the swarm of brave souls as we stood on that icy deck unified by our frozen toes. I jumped up and down to stay warm and did a total of 70 push-ups. I just needed a good distraction from the fact that my toes were turning into icy blocks. I found some girls that I started coaching on my first swim team nearly 4 years ago and we devised a good exit strategy. I suggested that we swim straight towards the bonfire so we could warm up ASAP.
They counted down from 10-9-8-7-Excitement and Anticipation building -6-5-4-3-2-1!!!!!!!!!!! As I jumped into that icy water I felt a surge of pure joy surge through my body.
I felt fully alive!!!!! This is what life is about! THESE MOMENTS THAT TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY!!!!!
I have decided that I am going to fill 2015 with more moments like these. It’s been too long and a long time coming!!!
Day 5: January 2nd 2015
SWIM WORKOUT -Kathy and I decided to meet for a swim. I am glad she suggested it because it probably wouldn’t have been my first choice and probably wouldn’t have even happened. It took me a long time to prepare and leave my house, but today I decided I would take my swim equipment back out of the back of my closet. Because the most seriously “real” swimmers bring their own gear. I left the house feeling fully official, but still not completely thrilled.
My paradigm began to shift when Kathy suggested that I write out our workout. She swam 1,700 yards in her last workout so I decided that we would swim farther today. Here’s what we did!
- 200 Swim, 200 Kick, 200 Pull, 200 Swim
- 500 Free -1 easy, 1 fast, 2 easy, 2 fast, 3 easy, 3 fast, 4 easy, 4 fast
- 4×50 Kick/Drill (Fly, Back, Breast, Free)
- 4×50 Drill/Swim (Apply the same drill)
- 200 Individual Medley
- 200 Breaststroke
- 10x 50 Kick with Fins 1:00
- Odds: Flutter
- Evens: Fly
- 100 EZ
I am so thrilled that Kathy and I went swimming. What a Fantastic way to begin this New Year!!!!
I am Ready to become the BEST Version of myself!
Peace, Joy, and Blessings,
