Word of the Day

I have noticed that I overuse words like great and awesome.  I think it is time for me to expand my vocabulary so I am going to start learning a new “word of the day.”  It is easy to get into a pattern of overusing common words, but I want to better myself and try and step outside of that.

diaphanous– adjective

  1. Very sheer and light; almost completely transparent or translucent.
  2. Delicately hazy.

She wore a diaphanous shawl over long evening gown.

Word Origin:  Diaphanous can be traced to the Greek term diaphaínein meaning “to showthrough.” It entered English in the early 1600s.
