Workout and Word of the Day #17

How was your day?  I was tired today and it was no mystery why…  I have been aiming to get to bed earlier, but I have not managed to fully settle down until about 11:30.  Then my kitten promptly wakes me up at 5:30 am to let her our of the bedroom…  I go back to sleep for about an hour then wake up between 6:30 and 6:45.  

I was dragging through the morning so I caved and got myself a low calorie coffee, but it did not have a very strong effect on me.  That’s okay.  I guess it is just proof that there is no true short-cut around sleep.  Was drinking the coffee worth-it?  No.  And I don’t mind that because I won’t be tempted to get another tomorrow.  I will stick with my tea and see how that goes.

I decided to workout before Mixxedfit this evening!

This Evening’s Workout of  the Day: “Back, Hamstrings, Biceps, and Core”

I planned on going through this circuit 3 times with 15 repetitions in each set, but time only permitted me to go through it twice.  You can do 3 sets if you like!


  • Wide-grip lateral pull-down
  • Deadlifts with a calf raise
  • Seated Rows
  • Static Lunges (I put my back leg up on a bench for an extra challenge!)
  •  Back Extensions on the Yoga Ball
  • Kettle-bell Swings
  • Bicep curls
  • Jumping Jacks (1 minute)
  • Bicycle Crunches
  • Concentration Curls
  • Jumping Jacks (1 minute)
  • Russian twists

selenology- noun

  1. the branch of astronomy that deals with the nature and origin of the physical features of the moon.

Tonight I listened to my body.  Since I only got through 2 rounds of my circuit; I was planning on doing the 3rd one after Mixxedfit.  During class I noticed that my pinky was hurting, but it wasn’t swollen.  I am not sure exactly what I did, but it could have been from gripping weights too tightly or something like that.  I kept an eye on it and made it a point to be extra gentle.  A little further into the workout, my right wrist started feeling tender.

At that point I decided that I would not do my 3rd circuit.  I was going to rest so that my body could heal.  Tomorrow is supposed to be a rest day so I can do the 3rd circuit then if my hands are feeling better.  Right now my pinky and my wrist are not bothering me.  I think I made the right decision in deciding to take the rest of the night off.  

I am so glad that I am learning to listen to my body.  I think in the past, that was where I fell short.  There were times when I worked out so hard that I got dizzy and had to stop.  Or I injured myself and had to be out longer.  Or my pride kept me going when I clearly needed to rest.  There was a time last spring in Mixxedfit when I hit the floor SO HARD that my entire hand went numb and was all bruised.  I learned not to do that again!!!  Yes, I have been guilty of getting carried away, but learning to listen to my body has helped me make way more progress.

This is starting to look like another late night.  I better head to bed!  Have a good night, my dear darling friends!!!

  1. Our bodies definitely know best! I got two hours of sleep last night, so I get that tired feeling you have, not a good feeling 😕 but I slept for another hour after my two morning workouts and it helped. Hope you have a better nights sleep tonight!
