This was a busy week and I am so glad that the weekend is finally here. I woke up with another pounding headache, but my dear friend/fellow blogger: http://neveradullbling.com brought up a good point. She said that when she gave up coffee she had headaches for a straight week and on the first day that my headache hit; I did not have any coffee. I also didn’t have coffee today so maybe there is something to it. I guess it is a good enough reason to take a break from caffeine so that I don’t have to go through this again when I try to give it up.
I am really enjoying work. It is nice to spend time with the students and encourage them to challenge themselves. Some people and a good amount of kids think that physical education is such a waste of time. They complain and say that their time would be better spend in the classroom. I can see where they are coming from, but I do think that staying active and fit is crucial to growing both mentally and physically. It is not good for anyone to sit at a desk all day. Everyone needs physical activity. It helps us clear our minds, builds our endurance, and helps us grow stronger and healthier. It saddens me to see some of the students struggle so hard just to do one push-up. It is even sadder when students choose to be lazy and don’t even try. We have a TA (teacher assistant) who said that when he took “Freshman Fitness” it was a requirement for everyone to run the mile in under 7 minutes. One of the other teachers said that this particular student has played football, basketball, soccer, track, and was on the dive team… He told her that he wanted to earn a varsity letter in every sport. I love seeing kids like that who are ambitious and motivated and do not shrink in the face of challenges.
Often times the students ask me if I am a new student. Today some of the girls wanted to know how old I am and when I asked them how old they thought I was they said, “22.” I like that answer :).
I remember back when I WAS 22… I was overweight and unhappy with my body and myself thinking that I was old back then. I am so glad that I have reached a point in my life where I can be grateful for my health and what I do have. I want to continue to learn and grow stronger. Make sure that you never take your health for granted, my friends.
I met with my mom for a late lunch. We got Pho and bubble tea which was perfect for a blustery day like today. She had a hip-replacement this past December and when she had her appointment she found out that she might need a knee replacement soon. She also said that my dad has been sticking with his elliptical workouts. He gets winded after just 5 minutes, but he says, “Tomorrow I will go for 6 minutes.” I am just so happy that he is finally making time for exercise in the midst of his busy schedule.
After dinner with momma I had just enough time to go home and change into workout clothes. I went to 6:50 Zumba!!! Today I was in the front row and I think that I honestly prefer being in the middle row because it is easier to follow along. I was also right by the mirrors and was super critical of myself. It was kind of discouraging to see myself in the mirror and still feel like I look heavy and out of shape.
Today in the locker room the girls were playing “Danza Kuduro”. It brought back great memories so I thought I should feature a video!
I have been working out hard consistently, but I do know that my nutrition has not been completely on point. I am still struggling with my nutrition habits and coordinating it with my work schedule. The other thing that makes things more challenging is that there are SO many good places to eat on the way home and I am usually exhausted so it is easier to just pick something up.
Over this weekend I think that I am going to do some research and come up with a nutrition plan for myself. I want it to be healthy and easy to take to work with me. I think that I should also get back into meal-prepping on the weekends. I know that I will make a lot more progress overall if I clean up my nutrition. It has ironically been the most challenging thing for me to change.
