Workout and Word of the Day #27

Happy Mardi Gras Everyone!!!  I did not even realize that it was today until today…  And I am not sure what brought it to my attention, but here we are!  Are you going to give something up for lent?  I think this time of year is a perfect opportunity to practice making sacrifices for the greater good.  I could probably benefit from some nutrition sacrifices…  I guess more like indulgence sacrifices :).

Since we are talking about sweets, I have decided to feature one of my favorite pieces from my symphony days below…  Yes, I used to play the violin and sometimes I miss it 🙂  Enjoy!!!

I figured I would order pizza or eat some kind of junk food, but when it came down to it; I wasn’t craving junk food.  It was a nice change for me.  I ended up getting a mango smoothie and ordering Indian food.  Palak Paneer (which is a creamed spinach dish with spices and cheese) and Naan (bread that is like a cloud).  I felt really good after that dinner and energized which is another nice change for me.  I still had a headache throughout the day.  Hopefully that will taper off soon.

I also had a lot to look forward to since my man said he was coming home to take me to dinner and pick up tax forms.  I feel so special that he made the 2 hr drive to see me.  He said that he would be home by 8 pm.  So my next dilemma was ignoring the voice in my head that was encouraging me to take the night off.  Mixxedfit ends at 8:30 so I wouldn’t have been able to make that.  I could just shift my week and take my rest day a day early, right?!?!

Then I remembered that tomorrow after work I have a massage so it would make more sense to rest tomorrow…  The next dilemma was, “what workout should I do?”  I was pretty tempted to head downtown and do a “Cross Training class” followed by “CXworks” to change things up a bit.  I ended up choosing the closer gym and taking 5:30 YOGA.  I am so glad that I did.  My legs were talking to me for sure and the balance poses were a little more challenging as a result.  I have my 2 spinning classes a day to thank for that one!  On a side note, my booty was burning from getting used to sitting on a spin bike.  After yoga it was time to work out!!!!

Today’s Workout of the Day: Back, Biceps, Hamstrings!!!

Complete 2 sets of 15!!!  You got this!!!

  • Wide-grip Lat Pull-downs
  • Deadlifts with a calf raise
  • Butt Kicks (1 Minute)

  • Kettle-bell Swing

  • Kettle-bell squat with a row
  • 50 Jumping Jacks
  • Bicep Curls

I definitely felt this workout and it was a good feeling!  I was sweating the entire time!!!

Today’s Word of the Day is:

vicissitude-noun

  1. a change or variation occurring in the course of something.
  2. Interchange or alternation, as of states or things.

That’s a good word to roll off the tips of your tongue now, isn’t it?!?!?!

I guess you could say that I did indulge today.  I got new everyday/workout shoes (which I will post a picture of in the near future!) and I stopped by Miss Moffatt’s Mystical Cupcakes.  I have always wanted to check it out.  I think she was featured in the “Cupcake Wars” series and I love supporting local businesses.  When I walked in she said that they were sold out, but she had a couple of half-off cupcakes!  Even better!

Overall today was a wonderful day AND it was a Tuesday which makes it extra special!  The only downside was my headache, but hopefully that will be resolved soon!

After my workout, Christopher beat me home and we ordered Chicken Tom Kah soup with coconut and egg rolls to go (Which is an absolutely divine dish).  If you haven’t tried it yet, you should!

After dinner and visiting he had to head back north which kills me, but I am glad we had the time that we did!  Right now I feel warm, happy, content, and full.  I am also thrilled because I am not craving sweets or wanting to munch like I usually do!

How was your day?  I better head to bed…  I’m pretty tired.  I’ll see you tomorrow!

Love and Blessings Always,

Alana Xoxoxo

  1. I’m so happy you got to see your boyfriend last night!! How wonderful of him to travel 2 hours back and forth in one evening! Okay, so true story… I used to play the violin too! I picked it up again about 14 years ago, even had private lessons, but dang if I didn’t drop it again. My violin sits in my front closet, even now. Just had to share!! 😀

    1. Thanks so much! Yes, he lives in our place in Mukilteo and would love for me to move up there too, but I am trying to hold out to the end of the school year for my job before I make any big changes. You are a violinist too? That is wonderful!! And great that you picked it up again. You should play again someday. I have been thinking about it, but not sure when I would fit it in. Who was your favorite composer? Thanks for sharing your story!

      1. Are you comfortable in saying what town you live in because I’m really curious! I ran 2 races in Mukilteo last year!! Such a pretty place!! I always loved fiddle music more than classical and I was in the orchestra that played for the high school musicals, so I have a huge love of Broadway scores. How about you?

      2. I grew up in and currently live in Olympia. I really admire fiddle music! I played in orchestra also and some of my fondest memories was playing in the pit for the school musicals! My first one was “Funny Girl” which I absolutely love and my last musical was “The Sound of Music” What musical is your favorite! It is so great that we have that in common 🙂

      3. Oh my! You really are a ways down there! Okay, well… you’re doing really good with the distance thing!! And now I can REALLY appreciate the specialness (new word, lol) of Christopher taking you to dinner the other night! Tacoma through Olympia has to be the worst bottleneck ever!! Anyway… I really enjoyed playing Oklahoma! 😀 But wow, to have played the Sound of Music!!! Yes, it is cool we have this in common!!! 🙂
