This morning I wrote the “Workout and Word of the Day #36” and afterwards I got a sudden jolt of inspiration!  I had 10 minutes left to get ready for work (crunch-time!) and I decided to track down my swim suit and suit up.  I was going to swim with my swim classes today and help anyone who needed help with their swimming technique.  I also figured that it would be a good opportunity for me to get a swim in myself.

I mixed things up this morning and I think it was the BEST thing that I could have done!  I have been drinking my lemon cayenne tea and making a green smoothie for breakfast everyday this week, but today I drank my tea and skipped the smoothie.  Instead of whipping up the green; I decided to blog and it was just what I needed.  After blogging, I was inspired to exercise and swim!  I am not trying to promote skipping your green smoothie in the morning, but I do think that writing almost first thing in the morning is a very good thing.  Your ideas are fresh, vivid, and sharp!

I was honestly nervous about getting into the pool with my highschool classes.  I always get self-conscious especially with the bigger class, but that disappeared once I started swimming.  The kid that I was hoping to help wasn’t as receptive to my help as I thought he would be, but his friend wanted some pointers and I was happy to help.  I swam some laps towards the end of that class and we get a break in between classes.  So that was my opportunity to swim.  I was pleased with the way 2nd period went.  There is a student who has been struggling and always comes in last.  I was surprised that he stuck with the class and didn’t ask for help.  I always want to help the kids, but some of them are more self-conscious than others.  And some say, “they’re good” when you try to help.  So I don’t want to force my help on anyone.  This student was receptive and picked things up so quickly.  All this time he would never put his face in the water because he was afraid of swallowing water.  Today he went underwater, did bobs, practiced gliding off the wall with his face in the water, kicked with a kick board all the way across several times, swam freestyle, kicked on his back all the way across, swam backstroke, and at the end of class I introduced him to side-breathing.  I LOVE being able to help people with their swimming.  I am sure you can tell, by the way that I rambled on, that swimming is one of my passions!  ❤

After swimming I went to spin class and we had a challenging class in there.  Oh a highlight of my day was that I swam a 500 in 7 minutes and 45 seconds.  I hate to admit that it has been a couple of months since I have swam laps more than once and I was expecting to feel heavy and winded.  I expected to feel this way especially since I have not been working out in the gym, doing cardio classes, or lifting.  I was worried that I would feel weak, but to my surprise; I felt a lot less winded than I expected to!!!  And my 500 time was faster than it has been in a long time.  I think the last time I swam it; it took me over 9 minutes!

I was wracking my brains trying to figure out what I have been doing differently to build up my endurance and stamina like that and I think the answer is  SPINNING!!!
I ❤ ❤ ❤ breakthrough moments like that.  They keep me so inspired and energized.  So if you are looking for a low-impact cardio workout, try spinning!  you’ll like it!!!
