Workout and Word of the Day: #90

Hello My Dear Darling Friends!

I hope you are enjoying your weekend!  This has been a great weekend for me.  It feels nice to finally be on the mend.  I still feel a little tired, but that is to be expected after being sick.

This morning my boyfriend brought me to my Afro-Brazilian Dance class.  I absolutely adore our teacher.  She begins each class with a Feldenkrais Method lesson.

What is Feldenkrais?!?!

The Feldenkrais Method® is a form of somatic education that uses gentle movement and directed attention to improve movement and enhance human functioning. Through this Method, you can increase your ease and range of motion, improve your flexibility and coordination, and rediscover your innate capacity for graceful, efficient movement. These improvements will often generalize to enhance functioning in other aspects of your life.

The Feldenkrais Method is based on principles of physics, biomechanics and an empirical understanding of learning and human development. By expanding the self-image through movement sequences that bring attention to the parts of the self that are out of awareness, the Method enables you to include more of yourself in your functioning movements. Students become more aware of their habitual neuromuscular patterns and rigidities and expand options for new ways of moving. By increasing sensitivity the Feldenkrais Method assists you to live your life more fully, efficiently and comfortably.

I was excited because I felt a lot more at ease than I have in the past.  Most of the exercises we practiced demanded lots of core strength and I was able to do the movements with ease.  I think my Pilates workouts are starting to pay off!!!

After our Feldenkrais lesson I swear my legs felt longer and I felt a lot more at ease.  I was able to walk taller and more gracefully!  The rest of class consisted of Samba Reggae and a complete Samba dance.  I love this class and am sad that the quarter will be ending soon.  It is time for me to start thinking about what I will write my paper on.  I have lots of ideas!

Today’s Workout of the Day: Feldenkrais + Samba + Hiit + Power Yoga

This Hiit workout included 15 different core exercises!  It is an excellent full-body workout:

I really enjoyed this workout.  In the past…  Well, almost every time that I have ever attempted a hiit or tabata workout I always ended up dizzy and could barely complete the workout.  This time around I felt energized and enthused!  There really was no need for multiple workouts after this one!

After that yoga workout I felt so good that I wanted to do another one.  I was thinking restorative or yin yoga.  I started a workout, but my boyfriend and I ended up taking our kitty-girl, Alleyjandra on a voyage to the grocery store instead!

Word of the Day:


  1. to close and open quickly : to shut one eye briefly

Today was probably the best day that I have had in a long time.  Even though I don’t have a perfect body, I still feel so good knowing that I am finally making my health  a priority.  There’s nothing like taking deliberate steps in the right direction!
