Eating Clean: Day #3

I knew that a big test would be whether or not I could sustain this lifestyle during a full school day…  I was tired when I woke up, but also excited about making my morning smoothie.

Breakfast: Pina Colada

This smoothie was delicious and so full of flavor.  The vanilla bean was an additional treat!

For lunch I was supposed to make the “Pear Power Shake”, but I was working under a time crunch and I loved the pina colada so much that I decided to make it again for lunch.  I sadly couldn’t find my Kleen Kanteen, but I was able to pour my smoothie into my trusty Nalgene and throw it into an insulated bag with an ice pack.  

Lunch: Pina Colada

At lunch, my friend  offered me one of her delicious homemade shrimp and bbq pork dumplings.  I honestly said yes at first because she is a great cook and also because I didn’t want to be rude.  As she left to heat up the lunch, I reminded myself that I was on day #3 and this is the most successful that I had EVER been with eating clean in my entire life.  When she returned I told her about how I was on day 3 of my clean eating cleanse.  I know that she means well, but she became very critical of my menu.  She said she didn’t know how I could just drink smoothies with ingredients like ginger.  Then she became critical of my lunch smoothie and said that it had too much sugar (pineapple).  She said that I need to eat more protein and also that I don’t seem like myself because I seemed tired and less energetic than usual.  She also said that I looked pale.  

In those moments, I felt almost embarrassed and a little discouraged.  Her comments made me second-guess my choices and soon I started to feel lethargic.  I got through my chemistry lab then was happy to head home.

Dinner: Curry Coconut Soup

I am finally starting to get used to these dinner soups.

 

I have noticed that I am a little more tired, but that is to be expected.  This was a dramatic lifestyle change for me.  I used to start my day with a quad-shot iced Americano.  I even tried that “Unicorn Frappucino” that everyone has been raving about (that is before I started this plan).  It got to the point where nothing ever felt like it was enough.  I always needed more coffee to stay awake and function.  And I turned to my sweet and salty, calorie ridden goodies for daily comfort.

The Choice is Yours:

My friends comments hurt and discouraged me a little, but I am not going to give up.  This evening I talked with my mom who encouraged me to do the plan in the first place and that really helped.  

I recommend that if you are planning on making a big lifestyle change like I am, that you find a buddy or a friend to embark on the journey with you.  I WILL BE YOUR buddy too and we can cheer each other on!!!

  1. Loved this! Where are you getting those meal plans? Am really curious I want to try but am afraid that I won’t be able to keep up.

      I am following Ani Phyo’s plan in her book: “Ani’s Raw Food Detox”
      It is very affordable as a paperback on Amazon.

      I have known about her program for several years, but was always too daunted to do it. I didn’t think there was any way I could stick to such a dramatic lifestyle change. My dad has been in and out of the hospital a lot lately. He has type 1 Diabetes, stage 4 kidney failure, and heart disease. I was at my heaviest and coping with food to deal with my stress. Every day when I got dressed, I disliked what I saw in the mirror and the fact that I felt like a ticking time-bomb.
      My mom encouraged me to try out this plan and I am so happy that I have stuck with it so far!
      You don’t have to do it all at once. It is fine to make little changes because they will go a long way 🙂
      You can do it and I am here to cheer you on!!!
