Take Your Eyes Off Of the Obstacles and Look For Your Goals

This month my eyes wandered away from my goals.  I could only feel discouragement in the form of feeling inadequate and I saw my shortcomings in the form of my sickness.

There is a delicate balance between pushing yourself to accomplish everything that needs to be done and making sure you are taking care of yourself.

My default outlook tends to be a stubborn tunnel vision that mainly sees the obstacles and everything that could go wrong.

I have been working hard to open up my vantage point and to see the daily opportunities to learn.

Last night I reminded myself why I wanted to learn these skills in the first place.  I went back to my “book of dreams” and it helped to ignite that light in my soul that inspires me to be my best.

I wanted to share this with you.  When you feel discouraged or stuck thinking that you cannot do it; take some time to remind yourself of your goals and dreams then remember that YOU CAN DO IT.

Then start small and take it one step at a time, because the little things add up and make a difference.

  1. Hey Alana. I’ve been feeling this too. Having trouble finding a dance partner for the big competition (next week, ON MY 30th BIRTHDAY….), getting older (again, will be 30 in a week), and have been avoiding going to the gym/healthy diet (well, more like no diet because I just don’t have an appetite, and having way too much soup at Panera), and avoiding work/responsibility (hence my blog-reading tear today). Although I danced for 2 hours on Tuesday night, Wednesday night, and Thursday night, I still feel like a lump. I also really want to go on vacation somewhere soon. Thanksgiving is coming up, so I’ll probably fly back home to visit my parents, but I want to make a trip to Washington to visit some friends who moved to Seattle last summer, and who knows, maybe we can finally meet up after exchanging blog comments? Anyway, keep on writing and I will keep on reading. And come visit my blog some time 🙂

      I don’t know exactly what day your birthday is, but you mentioned it was this week. Happy 30th!!! That is a big deal and I hope you found a good dance partner. I would dance with you if I could, but as much as I love dancing; I have never been great at partner dancing.
      I can relate to you as far as lack of workouts and diet because I have been sick the past 3 weeks and even had to miss school which has been depressing and set me way back. Soup at Panera sounds delicious and I don’t think that is the worst thing your could do 🙂
      Also dancing for hours 3 plus nights a week is far from being a lump so I hope you will feel encouraged.
      I think you would like the PNW. I would warn you about the fact that it is rainy and cold, but I think you have lived in colder places and have more experience with snow than I do. Always fun to chat with you and I definitely do visit your blog! Until next time.
