That’s How You Know It’s Real

The older I get the more I am beginning to realize that the best and most beautiful things in life take time.

You cannot rush a masterpiece and honing in on a skill or cultivating a talent does not happen over night or by chance.

It takes not just one decision, but many decisions and then choosing to stay dedicated to that choice again and again until it becomes a part of you.

This applies to friendships and relationships too.

The world is full of so many people who sparkle in their own way.  I think it is good to be open to meeting people and spreading light and joy to others.

People are multifaceted and should not be judged by their appearances or their circumstances.  We all have our own story.

Most importantly, and this one is hard, do not rush or force love.

Live, laugh, cry, share your highs and lows together and establish a friendship first that is built on trust and respect.

Things won’t always be perfect because we are imperfect people.  There will even be times when you disagree and drive each other crazy to the point that walking away might seem like the best decision…

And sometimes it is.

When a relationship becomes toxic you have to ask yourself: “Am I still growing?”

Then remember:

“When you stop growing it is time to get going.”

At the same time, your person might get under your skin and break your heart.  They might tell you things you don’t want to hear.  They will be your mirror and remind you of the hopes, goals, and dreams that you once shared with them.  And it hurts when they point out that some of your choices are not contributing to your growth and the direction you want to go in your future.

At this point, you would love to hate them and tell them to f off.  That’s the pride speaking.  The pride that hides the truth.

When it’s all said and done we have to ask ourselves.  Does this person bring out the best in me?  Am I in a better place now than I was before we met?

It is rare to be able to say:

“I like me better when I’m with you.”

That’s how you know it’s Real.   ❤

“I Like Me Better” Lauv

To be young and in love in New York City
To not know who I am but still know that I’m good long as you’re here with me
To be drunk and in love in New York City
Midnight into morning coffee
Burning through the hours talking

Damn

I like me better when I’m with you
I like me better when I’m with you
I knew from the first time, I’d stay for a long time
‘Cause I like me better when—
I like me better when I’m with you

I don’t know what it is but I got that feeling
Waking up in this bed next to you, swear the room—yeah—it got no ceiling
If we lay, let the day just pass us by
I might get to too much talking, I might have to tell you something

Damn

I like me better when I’m with you
I like me better when I’m with you
I knew from the first time, I’d stay for a long time
‘Cause I like me better when—
I like me better when I’m with you

Stay awhile stay awhile
Stay here with me
Stay awhile stay awhile, oh
Stay awhile stay awhile
Stay here with me
Right here with me
Yeah, yeah

I like me better when I’m with you
(yes, I do, yes, I do, babe)
I like me better when I’m with you
I knew from the first time
I’d stay for a long time
‘Cause I like me better when—
I like me better when I’m with you

I like me, I like me
Look who you made me, made me, oh no
Better when

I like me better when I’m with you
