Makeup Shelf Life

In the spirit of spring cleaning; let’s talk about makeup.  Whether we would like to believe it or not makeup does have a shelf life and hanging on to makeup for too long can have harsh consequences.  The product may reformulate and bacteria will begin to grow.

The last thing I need is for my makeup to make me sick so let’s take action and de-clutter our makeup collections.

Makeup Shelf Life according to Bobbi Brown:

  • Blush- 2 years
  • Eyeshadow- 2 years
  • Eyeliner- 1 year
  • Liquid Foundation- 2 years
  • Moisturizer- 2 years
  • Powder- 2 years
  • Lipstick- 1 year
  • Lipliner- 1 year
  • Brow Pencil- 1 year
  • Concealer- 2 years
  • Sponges- 6 months (wash after every use)
  • Mascara 6 months

*Wash ALL brushes every few weeks

*Immediately discard any makeup that is broken, in a broken container, or missing a lid.

With that in mind I proceeded to open every single drawer (even the junk drawer) car compartment, pocket, purse, nook and cranny that might have had some make up in it.  It was actually fun to go on this little treasure hunt.

I am honestly not a makeup aficionado, as you will see, but I do like to cover my dark circles when they appear and add a pop of color or a little shimmer shimmer every now and then 😉

This is what I got rid of:

This is what I kept:

I think my makeup collection is fairly minimal.  I have one blush/foundation brush and one eye-shadow brush.  More lip balm and lipgloss than anything else.

I just started getting ipsy bags each month in October so a lot of this is from my ipsy subscription.

I did however, treat myself to a Colourpop palette and lip set that I Absolutely LOVE ❤

“All I See Is Magic” palette “Feelin’ Fine” Lip gloss ❤

I hope this helped you get a headstart on decluttering your makeup collection.  Take the BEST then leave the rest, my friends!

Love, Joy, and Blessings Always,

❤ Alana xoxoxo

    1. Thank you! And I have been bad as well so bad that I thought it was necessary for me to write this post. I did not even realize how short the shelf life is of some products. Yikes!
