COMMIT

I am in town for school and have had my heart absolutely set on becoming a dance fitness instructor.

I joined a gym this past summer and decided to really take my weight loss journey seriously.  The thing I missed the most about my new city was taking dance fitness classes.  Anything from Zumba and Mixxedfit to Commit and Ballet.  Dancing makes me feel alive and more fully like myself.  I love the way that it brings us together and gives everyone a chance to let loose and have fun!

I am especially loving my Zumba classes and many of the students and instructors in my class have been asking me when I would become an instructor.  I have wanted to, but the training is just so expensive and I cannot spare the expense right now being a “poor college student.”  At the same time, I have been feeling so much pressure to take the training because they do not offer it in my new city so I will not have the opportunity once I got back.

I even considered trying to pick up a part-time job just to be able to afford the training, but I do not think that is realistic since I am only going to be in town for 2-3 more weeks.

Then a miracle happened…  My dance sister April posted that she was going to take the COMMIT Masterclass and asked who wanted to ride up with her.  I responded saying that I would love to, but was too low on funds.  She reached out to the founders of the company on my behalf and they gave me a scholarship to attend their licensing workshop!!!

I still cannot believe that this really happened?!?!  How did I ever get so lucky and so blessed?!?!  This was exactly what I have been wanting in the exact format that I was hoping to learn.  Quande and Donna Black are some of my biggest dance / fitness inspirations.  I took one of their workshops over 3 years ago and was obsessed with their style and techniques ever since.

I set my mind and heart on going to this workshop and April was willing to drive us.

Then I got hit with health issues out of nowhere.  2 weeks ago I felt a sharp pain in my side and discovered a lump the size of a marble near my rib.  During that same week I got sick and later found out that I had acute bronchitis.  This was kind of a depressing time because I had no energy and had to miss my workouts and some class.  I ended up having to get a cyst surgically removed just a week ago and I was beginning to worry that I would not be able to attend the workshop.  I was exhausted and in so much pain.

At that point I set my mind and heart on healing.  I decided to take the week off from my hard workouts and to allow my body to rest and recover.  I fought it in the beginning, but once I stopped fighting I noticed that my body started healing and recovering.

I am not at 100% yet, but I was able to make it to my COMMIT D.A.N.C.E Lab workshop.  It was from 11-7 so 8 hours of dancing and learning.

I have completed the training and am looking forward to learning and growing as a dance fitness instructor.  This time around I really want to push myself and make it happen!!!

I have not taught my own dance fitness classes yet because I was always too busy either working or in school.  I think it would be a wonderful way for me to continue dancing and improving my own agility and fitness and to give back to my community.

I had to push myself to get through this workshop because it was long and I was still under the weather, but it was all worth-it!

I love how experiences like this break you open to let the light shine through you.

How did you challenge yourself this week?  Comment below to share!

  1. Since I took time off from work, I have gone to yoga and/or pilates every single day, and walked > 10,000 steps many days. Sleeping 8 hours/day. Spending more time with friends and family. I feel more fit and less stressed already!

    1. Marilyn I am so happy to hear that you are taking this time for you and are spending time with friends and family! You definitely deserve it! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I hope we can see each other soon!
