2020 Happiness Project Week #5

Blue and Gold New Year Social Media Post

Hello My Dear Darling Friends!

What is new and exciting in your world?  Life is good here and everyone is alive and well.  I say that because last Saturday 3 stray dogs showed up on our property chasing my precious chickens and they would not leave.  It’s a good thing that our cats were inside at the time.  Luckily, the dogs were not aggressive towards us, but we didn’t know what to do.  All of the neighbors had their gates shut and the Humane society was closed.  I was worried about the chickens, but thankfully everyone survived and the Fab 5 Oreos still visit us every morning and follow me around anytime I am outside.

They even pose for family photos ❤

Last Sunday I surprised my self with a Classical Guitar that I found on the FB Marketplace. I have been wanting to pick up an instrument that I know nothing about like a cello or harp.   I almost bought a Cello twice since being on the island, but both sellers ghosted me so I figured that it wasn’t meant to be and harps are a rarity.  I would love a piano or even a keyboard, but still haven’t found the right one yet.  I was pleasantly surprised to see this beautiful Classical Guitar for sale at an affordable price.  The seller was in town for a festival with her girls and she said that she is a single mother who is selling it to have some cash on hand.  I am glad it went to a good place and am so happy to have found a beautiful guitar.

I took a few classical guitar lessons back when I was 12, but have not played since then.  To my surprise, I remember 2 songs from long ago…I apologize if you know the correct version of this song.  I was playing it from memory and depending on my 12 year old brain.

It has brought me lots of joy to play music again after all these years.  I have been looking up online tutorials and I think I will order my classical guitar books from before.  Do you play the guitar?  If so do you have any pro tips for beginners?  Please comment below to share/ send me a link to your channel!

Here are my blog posts from this week:

This week I completed 21 days of my bone broth experiment.  I did not exactly follow the “21 Day Bone Broth Diet” because I did not completely give up gluten, dairy, and refined sugar, but I did do 6 whole bone broth fast days (2x’s per week).  I am sure that if I make these changes I will get even more benefits.  In the near future, I may reattempt these 21 days and follow the guidelines more closely, but I am going to give my body a little break at least for the week.  My partner’s dad is coming to visit so it is a good time for a break.

I am going to continue to make bone broth and sip it on a regular basis because it is so wholesome and delicious!  This afternoon I even shared a jar of homemade bone broth with our friends who own the local organic coffee stand!

I spent very little time on my computer which was a much-needed change of pace.  It was so nice to spend a lot more time in the garden.  I have my heart set on turning this place into a beautiful island paradise.  I want to grow lots of fruit, berries, and fragrant flowers.  I am so glad that we are allowing our cats to enjoy the outdoors too!  This place is magical.

I did most of my workouts, but yesterday I got a little dehydrated and spent 3 hours working in the yard.  Afterwards I was exhausted and drained and decided to call it a rest day.  Thankfully today I feel much better and after I post this I will do my workout!

I made golden milk for the very 1st time ever! And am very pleased with how it turned out.  I did not have ground ginger or ground turmeric on hand, but I did have fresh roots so that is what I used.

We got a great deal on some dumbbells that we were missing in our set and even got a couple of duplicates that we could give to our renters.  I swear, this island sure provides!  Puffleton, our kitten went missing on one of these evenings.  It was not like him because he usually always greets us and comes home first.  Thankfully, he showed up several hours later and I realized that I need to take more pictures of the Hawaiian kittens.

Last, but not least, we are making great progress with our A-Frame cabin design.  Here is the latest and the greatest of our prototype.  It is very rough, but I like how it is turning out!

PHEW!  I am so glad that I finally sat down long enough to write my weekly post.  What is new and exciting in your world?  Please comment below to share!

  1. Hi Alana – it was nice to see the video of you playing guitar –
Sweet actually and also – reminded me of how much I love guitar music
I did take guitar lessons in 93 and 94 but never was drawn to practice so it waned.
My spouse is an active guitar player and for years I sometimes thought of getting back to it – oh and I did play bass for a shirt while – we have a piano I can play simple
Songs on but nothing besides that for me.
I am glad you found such a beautiful instrument too!!

And the bone broth was fun to read about.
We live sharing our jars with folks too.
But we have not for a while –
And it is interesting to hear about the fast – and the way you customized it –

Lastly – the a-frame is looking good
